| Small animals need to be feed a decent quality food mix every day and most prefer to be fed at the same time each day. Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and Gerbils like to be fed twice a day, whilst Hamsters (which are nocturnal) prefer to be fed once at day, in the evening as they awake.
The food mix should be one specially developed for your pet such as My Little Friend Gourmet Food for Rabbits & Guinea Pigs or My Little Friend Gourmet Food for Hamsters & Gerbils, as some animals require a different level of vitamins and nutrients to others.
Supplement the food mix diet with fresh vegetables and fruit. Guinea Pigs, in particular, need plenty for vitamin C as they cannot produce their own, and they also require fresh hay to nibble on. Always ensure fresh drinking water is available – a drip fed water bottle attached to the side of the hutch or cage is good for this.
In order to keep the cage clean and fresh, ensure that all leftover food is removed daily. Feeding bowls and water bottles should also be cleaned out (try My Little Friend Cage Disinfectant) and rinsed well, every couple of days. |
